celebrating juneteenth

today we take the time to commemorate juneteenth, a significant moment in history of the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved african americans in the confederacy. I value this day as a time of remembrance and celebration but this year I find myself reflecting on my journey as a black female founder of bonnee | the clothing swap app.

i am truly grateful to all those who continue to support me along this entrepreneurial path and to my bonnee co-founders, whose dedication and passion continue to drive us forward. i recognize how lucky we are to have wonderful mentors who believe in our vision and provide invaluable guidance. most of all, i appreciate each and every user who has joined the bonnee community choosing to swap before they shop. this community fuels my drive to succeed and passion for fashion.

as a black woman navigating the startup world, i have encountered both challenges and opportunities. there have been many lessons learned (and undoubtedly many more to come).

resilience is key. i believe my resiliency is one of my greatest assets.

embrace authenticity. can authenticity be a superpower? if so, i just might be mine.

build a support network. what is the saying…if you want to go fast, go alone. if you want to go far, go together.

i would be remiss if i did not recognize some of the incredible founders paving the way in their perspective industries who have become part of the bonnee network and are an inspiration to me.

jem social app: revolutionizing social networking with a focus on genuine connections and inclusivity.

hamilton perkins collection: redefining sustainable luxury with beautifully crafted bags made from recycled materials.

as we celebrate juneteenth, let us recommit ourselves to building a future where diversity, equity, and inclusion are not aspirations but realities. let us continue to support black-owned businesses, amplify black voices, and create spaces where everyone can thrive. together, we can forge a path toward a more just and equitable society—one where every dreamer has the opportunity to shine.

happy juneteenth.
